Do You Need A Water Heater Expansion Tank?
A water heater in a closed plumbing system can create serious damage and safety hazards. The extra pressure caused by water heater thermal expansion can damage plumbing and then some if the water has no place to go. That is where a water heater expansion tank comes in. The tank is installed in the water line to give that extra water volume a place to go so that it doesn’t stress pipes, joint, fixtures, or the water heater. The extra cost and time required to install an expansion tank is well worth it. Not to mention that if you have a closed plumbing system it is a plumbing code requirement.
